The staff at BA does a remarkable job of not just scouting the top draft-eligible players in the country, they also do their best to match players to teams based on prior draft history, tendencies, and trends. Version 1.0 has the Arizona Diamondbacks taking RHP Dillon Tate with the top overall selection, while they have the Reds selecting UC's own OF Ian Happ with the 11th overall selection. That's a tad interesting. BA notes that the Reds' system is deep with pitching, but I'd add that they're pretty dang deep with outfielders Tyler Stephenson Jersey, too. A chance to add a highly touted local prospect would be a smash hit, not that the Dayton Dragons need any sort of attendance boost, or anything.I'll also add that BA has three Vanderbilt Commodores being selected in their 1st round (Go Dores!), and has last year's #1 overall pick Brady Aiken - who the Houston Astros didn't sign and who subsequently needed Tommy John surgery - going 18th overall to the San Francisco Giants.As for the real, live, actual Cincinnati Reds, their series loss at the hands of the Chicago White Sox yesterday was the kind that just tends to stick in your crawl. After fighting back from a 2-run deficit with a rally against stout closer David Robertson, the bullpen again imploded to cost the team the game. This time, however, it wasn't one of the usual suspects; rather, it was Aroldis Chapman, and as Mark Sheldon notes at Reds.com, it ended a 28.1 inning scoreless streak. Gordon Beckham's soft single plated the rubber match's winning run, the first such allowed by Chapman in 2015.That final White Sox run elevated the Reds' bullpen ERA to a ghastly 5.56, which you probably won't be surprised to find is the absolute worst in all of baseball. What is surprising, though, is that there's only one team in all of baseball - the New York Mets - whose bullpen has thrown fewer than the 77.1 IP thrown by Reds relievers, yet the 48 ER they've allowed is tied for the 6th most in the game. Probably the most damning bullpen stat, however, is that they've only managed to leave 62.6% of their runners on base, which is hands down the worst in all of baseball.The foibles and tribulations of the Cincinnati bullpen is just one reason why the current iteration of the Redlegs has ESPN 1530's Mo Egger bored Jonathan India Jersey. He actually retired the first 17 batters he faced before walking Alcides Escobar, but then he kept on not allowing hits a little while longer.Jeff Francoeur led off the top of the eighth with a line drive, which was bad, but second baseman Jemile Weeks caught the line drive, which was good. After Francoeur, Moscoso got to a full count against Mitch Maier before freezing him with the following fastball:Maier disagreed with the call Willie Wilson Jersey, as did the Internet, but the call was the call, meaning Moscoso was just four outs away from completing his masterpiece.Alas, it was not to be. The next batter was Salvador Perez, and Moscoso got ahead 0-and-2. After a couple pitches missed, though, Moscoso left an outside slider at the belt, and Perez slashed it into right field for a single. The bid was snapped, and the game paused for a brief moment to allow the Oakland crowd to give Moscoso a standing ovation Richard Lovelady Jersey. This is not an attendance joke. The pause was brief.Moscoso did retire Mike Moustakas to end the inning. At 106 pitches through eight, his day is presumably done, but what a day, even if it was a little less than what it could have been.

Giancarlo Stanton is not an option to be a starter there anymore, and at this point, the less the team relies on Miguel Andújar and Clint Frazier, the better.Now that the Chicago Cubs are expected to be sellers at the deadline, it makes sense for them to trade third baseman/outfielder Kris Bryant. The former NL MVP, World Series winner, and Rookie of the Year is still somehow 29, and is having a rebound season after suffering through injuries in the last couple of years.Bryant is hitting .271/.351/.503 with 16 home runs and a .854 OPS in 80 games. Last season was rough for him, as he batted .206/.293/.351 with a .644 OPS in 34 contests, but he looks closer to his MVP form now that he’s healthy, even if he’s not the all-world masher he appeared to be four or five years ago. The key with Bryant that will spur Chicago into action is that he will be a free agent after the season Alexander Vizcaino Jersey. He profiles as your typical, star-level rental. It can be hard to precisely value just a few months of a high-level player, and I’m sure the Yankees won’t have the same valuation as the Cubs.Bryant, the batter, would be an obvious upgrade for the Yankees’ lineup. He is a career 136 wRC+ hitter, well above-average, who is still theoretically in his prime. He can draw walks, he can hit for power Deivi Garcia Jersey, and he has a long track record of success, as all the previously described hardware suggest.Defensively, he was once a very good third baseman, but is now a slightly above-average defensive performer at the hot corner (1 Out Above Average in 2021) and a passable fielder in the outfield corners and even first base. While he has played some center field this season (83.2 innings) asking him to do it regularly would be too much. Overall, his bat and his defensive versatility should make him an enticing target for the Bronx Bombers. He would obviously lengthen a lineup that has gone cold at times, and his flexibility would a plus. All that said, a deal remains unlikely for several reasons.Don’t get me wrong, Bryant very well could get moved at the deadline Derek Jeter Jersey. It’s just that it’s very difficult to see Hal Steinbrenner approving a deal considering that they want to stay under the luxury tax threshold (even if he implied he would be willing to go past the limit should he consider the Yankees needed it).Bryant comes with a price tag. He is making $19.5 million this season, and that’s his luxury tax number as well. Fitting him in under Hal’s payroll restraints would be hard, unless they accept that, if they want to save the season, they may need to go over the limit.The other issue, on top of the salary implications, would be determining what kind of return the Cubs would be seeking. Bryant is a high-profile player in the league, who happens to be available for only a handful of months for the team that decides to acquire him.And since the Yankees won’t be dealing any of their stars or vital controllable players, that leaves only prospects to deal. Clint Frazier, Deivi Garcia, and Miguel Andújar don’t have too much value right now, and the Cubs would have no use for some of the Yankees’ veteran relievers that they could be open to dealing.The Yankees do have plenty of interesting prospects, especially in Low-A, High-A, and Double-A. Finding a match in terms of prospects is certainly possible, and isn’t the primary hurdle to a deal. But as much as a Bryant trade could help in theory, the luxury tax question makes him an unlikely target.
